HAWK – Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaft und Kunst Hildesheim/Holzminden/Goettingen

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HAWK) is located in the South of Lower-Saxony (Germany), with three campuses in Hildesheim, Goettingen and Holzminden (altogether 6 faculties, 39 courses and about 6,000 students). HAWK employs altogether about 600 persons of whom nearly 200 have the status of being a professor. Besides teaching, HAWK is specialized in inter- and transdisciplinary studies, research and development. As far as research is concerned, HAWK has three superior research fields (registered on the research map of the German Rectors' Conference): (1) Laser and Plasma Technology, (2) Sustainable Production and Use of Biogenic Raw Materials and (3) Social and Economic Processes in Integrated Urban and Regional Development. Due to the decentralized structure and its rootedness in a rather peripheral rural area, HAWK perceives itself as “university for the region”. Particularly research field (3) considers the social and economic context of peripheral regions, which are among other characterized by demographic decline, an ageing population and economic backwardness. Most of the projects within this research field address these problems by applying inter- and transdisciplinary and participatory approaches.

In the MIMY project, HAWK will take over important tasks for assessing the critical role of the local population. Moreover, HAWK will carry out case study research in Germany.
